We all struggle with communication, especially the conversations that we anticipate being “difficult”. Reading Oren Jay Sofer’s book (and also taking his excellent online course!) introduced me to Nonviolent Communication, first pioneered by Marshall Rosenberg. It’s a clear and practical approach to how to recognize and communicate our needs, consider the needs of the person we’re speaking to and focus on what really matters. Along the way there’s also work on emotional agility, asking for what we want, and relational awareness. A book to read, and re-read.
